Carter was a member of the New Orleans primogen. He was a wealthy businessman, sire of Kyle McClennon, and he was known to dislike lupine.

In February, 1998, Prince Mancini declared a blood hunt on Carter Fontaine for killing several local kindred. Fontaine had killed vampires and tried pinning their death on the lupine in hopes that a war would start between werewolves and vampires.
