SolarTech S.U.H.N. Type-1 personal assault weapon

Roughly the size of an Uzi, this weapon fires a particle beam combined with concentrated ultraviolet light similar to an intense solar laser. Have you ever taken a magnifying glass out in the sun and used it to amplify the suns rays in order to burn a small object? The Sun-Gun functions similarly, but it doesn't require sunlight and it is millions of times more powerful. And the beam cannot be deflected by a reflective surface. For additional technical information, see the Arcane Journal.

The weapon is normally in 'standby mode', draining no energy. However, when you anticipate that you will fire the weapon, you "turn it on" by pressing a toggle-button "power button" on the side of the weapon (located in the same place as the safety switch on a Baretta pistol. Pressing the power button causes the weapon to power up and make a faintly audible high-pitch hum. Once it's turned on, there is a period of 1 to 4 seconds before the weapon is ready to fire. Furthermore, each time the weapon is fired, there is a 1 to 10 second delay before it can fire again. Finally, be sure to remember that when the sun-gun is turned on, it not only leaks radiation and an audible noise, it also drains energy from the next "bullet". For every turn (every 30 seconds) the gun is "on" without being fired, 1 point of damage is drained from the next round. Therefore, if I turn on the sun gun and leave it on for 4 turns (2 minutes) and then I fire it, it will only do 4 points of damage (8-4 = 4). If I turn it on and leave it one for 6 turns (4 minutes), the next "bullet" is drained completely and will only emit a flash of almost harmless light when fired (though it will still do damage based on the number of successes you got on the attack roll). The idea here is to not turn on the gun until you are ready to use it.

The Sun-Gun is a short-range weapon; it fires a devestating 10"-diameter beam with an effective range of 30 yards. The energy beam can burn a hole through wood, metal, and kevlar with little difficulty. Three inches of steel can be blasted through, but a foot of steel is unlikely. Concrete/cement cannot be fired through unless it is thin.

When the weapon fires, there is a rippling heatwave-like effect in a 3-foot radius around the weapon. This rippling effect is actually the surrounding light radiation being bent and distorted. Some believe that S.U.H.N. technology may one day evolve into a technology capable of bending light to a strong enough degree to make something appear invisible. However, the energy and resources costs would be so great that if Bill Gates liquidated all his assets and business holdings he would only have enough to turn a desk invisible for about 2 seconds.

Besides the fact that the Sun-Gun costs millions of dollars each and the ammo is equally expensive, they also are rumored to give off harmful radiation. Long-term use of these guns can cause cancer.
